English III (Verb Tenses PART II)

                                                                                        PROGRESSIVE TENSES


Present Progressive
  -describes an ongoing action that is happening at the same time the statement is written or at the time of utterance. This tense is formed by using:

am

is                +  -ing form of the verb
are

The sociologist
is examining the effects that racial discrimination has on the society.



Past Progressive
 
- describes a past action which was happening when another action occurred. This tense is formed by using:

was
  + -
ing form of the verb
were

The explorer
was explaining the latest discovery in Egypt when protests began on the streets.




Future Progressive
  -describes an ongoing or continuous action that will take place in the future. This tense is formed by using:

will
  + be + -
ing form of the verb
shall

 Dr. Jones
will be presenting ongoing research on sexist language next week.



Rewrite the following sentences using the progressive forms of the verbs.
1. We stay with my aunt
 in her house in Cebu.
2. He studies well to become a successful pilot.
3. We enjoyed a hearty meal for lunch.
4. They reviewed for the long test in English.
5. My cousin will come back to the Philippines next         year.
6. He will challenge the world champions in boxing   next month.
